Travelling light? Not for the faint hearted. Nola sorting out what goes to which orphanage.

This picture is some seven years old and here below is a picture of the tall girl in the middle, all grown up.

See, happy endings and new beginnings are happening a lot also. She is an incredible artist and mathematician, she takes great care and pride in all her endeavours and is very happy to have a new family to belong to.

About This Page

heart & soul @ work is concerned with and dedicated to humanitarian issues and bringing awareness to various corners of the world which most need our attention right now.

This includes where we are heading as a human race and how our choices reflect our responsibilities now and for future generations.

Michele also reflects on death, dying and beyond, and introduces Nola Ainsworth and her important Nepal Appeal.

As Freddie Mercury sings in one of his songs: We're all god's people. Give freely. Make welcome inside your homes. Let us be thankful. He's so incredible.

So let us not delay: Here we go!

Reach Out

On our recent travels to Nepal, we were finally able to meet all the Kids at HURESU in Katmandu. Nepal, being one of the really poor countries of this world, is where you can make a real difference. There are, it seems, endless Orphanages and extreme poverty to be experienced at close range, pretty much everywhere. To find out how, get yourself a nice cuppa, and read on what my friend Nola has to say.

Nola & Nepal Appeal

Here is Nola with all the little darlings.

Nola distributing beanies and scarves kindly knitted by volunteers.

My Projects in Nepal

As one of the least developed countries in the world Nepal has two-thirds of its population living below the poverty line. In addition, traditional social networks, communities and extended families are breaking down as people leave their villages in search of work. Children are deprived of their basic right to education due to poverty and socio-economic problems such as child labour, girl trafficking, bonded labour and discrimination against female children. It is estimated that it costs $US3.00 per day to feed, clothe, educate & shelter a child.

Below is a brief outline of the projects with which I am involved:

Tennis balls and toy cars are easy to carry and bring such pleasure to small children.

'Is this beanie really mine to keep?' The poorer children are not used to receiving gifts.

HURESU  ~  Human Research & Support Nepal

the most needy at this time HURESU is a Nepali NGO dedicated to the spirit of Human Rights, in particular the rights of women and children to live dignified lives as useful human beings. This Orphanage was opened in 2002 by Karuna & Sheela, daughters of the founder of Kumbeshwar Technical School. We been friends since 1994. 140 of my family and friends sponsor 19 children from 3-16 years at a cost of $200 per annum. At present each child has 8 sponsors. Ideally each child needs ten to cover the cost of shelter, education, food, clothing & extra-curricular activities.

We receive a photo of our sponsored child, a calendar & look forward to a Progress Report each year. The HURESU Home in Kathmandu offers young, vulnerable children a home & security. In simple family surroundings the children are given healthy food, love & support with organised playgroups for pre-schoolers & the opportunity to attend a local school for older children. Destitute women are also offered shelter & support for up to 6 months to enable them to begin rebuilding their lives. HURESU receives no Government assistance and relies totally on OUR sponsorship.

Each child has up to three sponsors. They have just received new clothes and are about to have a haircut.

'Do you have something for us, too?' Two of the poorer children we came across.

Sponsorship money of $200 per annum is collected each November for the following year. New sponsors are welcome at any time. People can sponsor individually, as a family or as a group-whatever it takes to raise the $200. I visit the children annually.       If you think you would like to “Reach Out and change a life in Nepal” please contact me.

Rainbows & Bridges

ArcoBaleno come into my life

Two at a time, side by side.

Reaching across the sky

Touching this blessed land

Like colourful, life bringing jumper leads

With the evening light

Just right

Just so

Creating a Visual feast

Bringing at once both Hope and Joy

Reach out your hand in an effort to build a bridge of friendship

A lifeline for a friend – or a friend yet to be

Bridging the gaps between people and places,

Celebrate different ways of being, together.

Celebrating Life and Nature

A lot less pain and confusion would be had in this world

If those who cannot see eye to eye were to take a closer look at each other

See how similar they both really are

Both lacking in trust,

Both greedy, unforgiving,

Yet, capable of great joy

Both yearning for freedom

Made up of similar vital ingredients.

Imagine them all

Together at breakfast

A G20 “Gee only Twenty?” Meeting - gone wrong because of a Power Failure. Ha.

Instead, passing each other milk and cereal, now

Chewing, the fat

Drinking, from the wellspring of good fortune, wisdom and knowledge

Swallowing, the pride

Enjoying the simple pleasure of smelling freshly brewed coffee

Wiping their hands on a napkin, starting over

Learning again

To see with fresh eyes,

That we all share the same needs

We all have the same yearnings for understanding, companionship and loving care

Yes, we are all so very different

But hey, isn’t it great.

What richness and wealth of diversity there is to be had among us all.

How fascinating the different ways of expression,

In language,

Clothing and simply food,

To name just a few.

Why take away the currencies that are our pride and unique stamp of identity?

Making things simpler is not always better.

All this time spent on making time saving devices and gadgets of communications,

We find less people speaking directly to one another

All speaking into cell phones, while with a friend, or playing with our kids at the park.

Why?

What for?

We are missing the moments.

They are passing us by.

We don’t see the rainbow after the rain.

We take no notice of the bridge as we cross it.

For we are busy being busy.

Stop.

Smell the Rose,

See the Rainbow,

Be in awesome wonder of the bridge

And grateful to those who built it,

You can cross it to meet with your friend.

Bring them a rose

And marvel together at all the beautiful colours in the ArcoBaleno.

Footprints in the Sand

We tell our children, to leave only footprints behind when going bushwalking, and to take all the rubbish home.

One day, not long from now, those same children will be feeding us our own words. They are on to those, high up in the ranks, who leave more than just footprints on the face of the earth.

They will not sue for money, for it holds no value when all the resources are poisoned. They will not blame or punish, the shame we have to live with is punishment enough. However, they will arouse within us, the deep desire to change for the better anyway.

We all walk the same surface and we are here for but a brief moment in time. Look what we have allowed to happen.

*'Is this the world we created - What did we do it for? Is this the world we invaded - against the law? So it seems in the end - Is this what we're all living for today - The world that we created. ...

'Is this the world we created, we made it on our own. - Is this the world we devastated, right to the bone - If there's a God in the sky looking down - What can he think of what we've done - To the world that he created. *(Mercury/May. All lyrics 1984 from the album Queen The Works)

On Cloning and Being Human

This is a fascinating and delicate issue that concerns us all, if not right now, then in the long run, for better or for worse. I feel very strongly about this grey area in science, that could ultimately be bigger than the impact of an A-bomb, where our greed and hunger to experiment can slowly self implode on us and still make us disappear in time.

For me it seems there are two main reasons why people would want to clone a human. The first, to bring back a loved one who has died. In an attempt to resurrect the soul that has come to pass. Secondly, as a personal "spare parts" department where organs can be harvested at will, so I've heard.

I am not an expert in this area, however I feel that in both cases the 'not being able to let go' issue is predominant and yet, is never once spoken of. If we are considering going down this path it is wise to develop a greater awareness of our choices and their potential consequences.

The soul of the person that has passed on, was/is very unique. The odds of getting that same soul to incarnate back into the cloned version is very slim. You may get the look but a very different persona. Hence, you will always be lamenting the lost soul, which was so special and radiant to you, because god gave each of us a different face. That was the exciting part of the 'Divinity Game' in the first place.

On the other hand, if we feel we have the right of life or death of a clone for body parts, we are in trouble. By cloning we will have created a time capsule for a soul to enter into being. Using him or her for body parts, is an act of crime. Full Stop. Or as my friend Tracylee put it: 'By treating other sentient beings so thoughtlessly we forfeit a portion of our own humanity'.

On Cloning Livestock and GMO Foods

Our bodies have great defense mechanisms. Much like a fully updated Norton Anti Virus System with built in Fire Wall and Extras, developed and fine tuned over aeons of time, throughout Evolution. I believe that if we are cloning livestock and producing GMO foods, we are also diminishing our natural immune system.

By creating and eating purpose modified foods we give up the need for our Norton Anti-Virus Package and our Firewall. Every time we go on line, i.e. eat and drink these foods, they can no longer update naturally the defenses needed for Free Radicals.

Scientist today appear to assume the right to play with our DNA without telling us about it. By doing so we may quickly become very 'Needy and Dependent' on the Industries that modified all this in the first place, for further artificial update and protection, which we will then have to pay for, and pay for dearly. Not only with money but also in kind.

So our built-in free of charge, top quality, Norton Anti Virus system and Firewall, are no longer getting regular updates, as our subscription slowly runs out and shifts to a new Paradigm, our updates become man made. Just try and imagine the Spam then.

Let me put it another way. When we have not made use of say a mailbox for six months or more, we get an e-mail, telling us that this service is now no longer available to us, has been canceled, as we have not used it for a long time. To modify our foods beyond their own initial divine recognition, I feel we would be doing something like that.

To throw away tried and tested defense mechanisms, which evolution has built for us over aeons of time: just like that, over night, without giving it much thought, I believe, would be a very silly move indeed.
